Flash Basics Lesson 1

Today is our first class doing Flash animation, woo hoo… We will be going over the very basics of flash 2D animation. We will do a short frame by frame animation lesson going over:

  • Basic tools, pencil, shapes, paint bucket fill
  • Timeline, creating keyframes
  • layers
  • Onion skinning
  • symbols

At the end of the lesson, please submit your .swf lesson file to the server for completion marks.


Film Industry Field Trip on Friday Mar 3

For those interested in the local film industry here in BC, you are invited to attend a field trip to downtown Vancouver on Friday March 3, all day. The MPPIA (motion picture production industry association of BC) will host the day long event, feature speakers and tours. There will be at least 4 productions going on at that time.

To sign up, please register on the Parent Portal (https://parents.sd42.ca/). The field trip cost is $5 to cover the bus, and you will need to have teacher permission from your Block A, B, C, and D teachers to attend. I will have permission forms, and you can also see Ms. Griffin for the forms as well.

 Our venue has been home to many productions since it was repurposed as a studio facility less than  2 years ago, for example:

 At the time of the Career Expo at least 4 productions will be underway and we’ll be working with the productions teams to gain access to tours contingent upon set status (which fluctuates daily) Tours will be scheduled by random selection in advance of the event and will be available to secondary school students only.

Final iMovie Project, Music video or Movie Trailer

For your final iMovie project, you are to select from one of the 2 following projects:

Music Video Remake
Create a 2 minute music video remake for an existing song  (or song you made up in Garageband). You may work with up to 4 other students on this project, but each person is responsible for their own “final version” of the video. Appropriate parody music videos will also be accepted.

1) 2 minutes in length.
2) Collect the media online (sound FX, video clips, music, etc) that you need (Must be school appropriate)
3) Must film at least 2 short scenes to be used in the video
4) A working script with and pre-shot list (wide, close-up) must be submitted before you start filming.
5) Must use one of the iMovie filters (eg. silent era) somewhere within the video.
6) Must use a green screen effect somewhere within the video (can be filmed or use stock green screen video)
7) Please include the URL to the real Music video (if it exists) for comparison purposes

Movie Trailer Remake
Create your own 30sec to 1 minute trailer for an existing movie or you can create a parody for an existing movie, or you can make up a trailer for a sequel to an existing movie.

1) Collect the media online (sound FX, video clips, music, etc) that you need.
2) Must use one of the iMovie filters (eg. silent era) somewhere within the video.
3) Must use a green screen effect somewhere within the video (this doesn’t have to be filmed, think of the UFO tutorial)
4) Must include a intro screen such as, “This following preview has been approved…”
5) Must write up a script for the voiceover narrative, then record your own voice as the voiceover.
6) Must include a music soundtrack (you did this already in a previous garageband assignment)
7) Please include the URL to the real Movie Trailer for comparison purposes

The assignment is due Tue Feb 21. When done, please submit to the server. Since this is a large assignment, it will be worth the most for your Term 2 report card.
